Tickets for Orphei Drängar’s traditional spring concerts 24-25 April are now available. Guest artist this year in lyrical soprano Elin Rombo, seen recently in Figaros bröllop at the Stockholm Opera and previously among other things in Pärlfiskarna at Folkoperan. Elin Rombo also received the Birgit Nilsson scholarship in 2009.
Together with OD Elin Rombo sings music by among others Veljo Tormis, Henry Purcell and Vincenzo Bellini.
“I am very curious as to what can be done with the sound, with me as lyrical soprano and a choir of only men. With a male chorus the sound can be so faint and soft, almost like velvet and that is something i am attracted by. A choir can sing so forcefully with so many voices, but the interesting happens when the volume is turned down and the audience has to lean forward in the auditorium”, says Elin Rombo.
The concert program also contains a first performance of the piece ”Newton’s Amazing Grace” by englishmanBob Chilcott. OD then tours European choral music with pieces by the Italian Bossi, Czechs Dvorak and Jeremias, Swedish Jan Sandström, and Finnish Sibelius and Linkola. In addition Elin Rombo, together with Folke Alin at the piano, will sing songs by Wilhelm Peterson-Berger.
A preview of the concerts is given in Västerås on 22th April with a somewhat modified program and without Elin Rombo. In addition to the concerts in Uppsala, Elin will join OD on its Far East tour this autumn to Japan, China and Singapore.
“I will be fun and an honour to go on tour with such an established name in Swedish choral life”, says Elin Rombo.
