Spring Concert | Uppsala

Orphei Drängar and Uppsala Blåsarsymfoniker invite you to a spring concert with an exciting spring program!

In this collaboration – which is taking place for the first time – we look forward to making music together. We also look forward to giving you, the audience, an artistic experience with both recogniseable as well as new musical acquaintances.

Orphei Drängar is considered one of the world’s foremost male choirs. By always striving for the highest possible quality, collaborating with the best soloists, conductors and orchestras, and regularly ordering newly written music, the choir aspires to be at the forefront of the development of male choir singing in Sweden and the world.

Uppsala Blåsarsymfoniker is one of Sweden’s foremost wind orchestras and has since its inception in the early 2000s operated within the rich Swedish wind music tradition. The orchestra aims to perform original works for wind orchestra with a modern sound, but thrives just as well in the classical wind music repertoire. In recent years, the orchestra has competed with great success and has won the Swedish Championships several times and has represented Sweden in both the European Championships and the World Cup for wind music.

Uppsala Blåsarsymfoniker and Orphei Drängar will together perform a premiere piece by the British composer Philip Sparke to lyrics by Edith Södergran. With the poem ”The Last Flower of Autumn”, Sparke has created a lyrical and beautiful work in its English translation. In addition, you are invited to a couple of well-known opera choir pieces, where the wind orchestra’s and choir’s sonorous splendor and magnificent expression are in focus.

Orphei Drängars repertoire extends, as is customary, at the spring concert from the romantic music to the portal pieces of the 20th century,  in addition to several classic spring songs, to pay tribute to the approaching beautiful spring.
