21 Oct Amazing Grace
Gottsunda Church, Uppsala
This autumn, Orphei Drängar will host two sacred concerts, which take place on 21 October 2017 at 18:00 in Gottsunda church, Uppsala, and on October 22, 2017 at 18:00 in Folkärna church, Uppsala.
The rich Swedish choir tradition is often attributed to the church and its music activities. Despite this, it’s a repertoire that Orphei Dränger rarely builds an entire concert program around. That’s why it’s fun for the OD to carry out this sacred concert project! In addition, it’s extra fun to do it together with Gottsunda’s Soul Children. Gottsunda Soul Children will both appear with some own pieces and with the OD. We are really looking forward to another exciting collaboration to add to the many that the OD has had the privilege of participating in over the years!
The music presented is derived from a time span of five centuries – from Alfonso Ferrabosco’s and Thomas Talli’s polyphonic vocals to Bob Chilcott’s fierce interpretation of the salvation of a slave ship captain in Newton’s Amazing Grace. With simple means and just a few vocals, Nils-Eric Fougstedt manages to paint a rich tune of Jesus’s birth. With many more parts and powerful contributions, well-known hymns such as “How Great Thou Art” are interpreted. We want and hope to offer the listener beautiful, strenuous and exciting musical experiences.
