Orphei Drängar last visited Iceland in 2002, and we are truly delighted to return in mid-October 2026. Iceland has a rich tradition of male choral singing and we look forward to an artistically rewarding collaboration with Karlakór Reykjavíkur in Hallgrimskirkja. In addition, OD will give a concert of its own in Skálholtsdómkirkja.
Under the direction of OD’s chief conductor Cecilia Rydinger, the choir will perform works by composers such as Hugo Alfvén (Sweden), Peter Cornelius (Germany), Eleanor Daley (Canada), Ester Mägi (Estonia), Knut Nystedt (Norway) and Mikko Sidoroff (Finland), alongside the Icelandic composers Hildur Guðnadóttir and Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson.
In addition, the program includes Brian Hughes’ lively Tyger! Tyger! and the romantic Der Gondelfahrer by Franz Schubert, both with OD’s deputy conductor and accompanist Folke Alin at the piano. Together with its Icelandic brother choir, OD will form a large and powerful ensemble, finishing the Reykjavik concert with folksongs from Iceland and Sweden.
